| General Biographical Description: | Dr. Sokol joined Wayne State University in 1983 as Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hutzel Hospital in the Detroit Medical Center. In 1988, he was appointed Dean of Wayne State University School of Medicine and served in that capacity for 11 years. After stepping down in 1999, he was named Distinguished Professor and Director of the C.S. Mott Center for Human Growth and Development. In 2000, he was appointed Editor-In-Chief of ACOG UPDATE, a monthly audio CME publication. He has received 15 national research awards and continued to publish extensively with over 300 refereed papers and 1,000 other publications. He served as President of the Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and the Central Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and continues to serve on many committees, boards, and development activities. |
