General Biographical Description: | Dr Moghissi is a graduate of the University of Geneva School of Medicine, in Switzerland (1952). He had his postgraduate and residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Surgery in England, and subsequently at Wayne State University Affiliated Hospitals. He also had a research fellowship in Physiological Chemistry at Wayne State University. He joined the faculty of Wayne State University in 1962 and is currently professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and served as Division Director from 1970 to 1994. He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and has subspecialty certification in reproductive endocrinology. He has also been re-certified. He is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Surgeons.
Dr Moghissi is known nationally and internationally. He has been an active investigator in the field of reproductive medicine, fertility enhancement, and regulation. He is author or co-author of over 360 publications in scientific journals and is editor or co-editor of 17 books. He belongs to all major organizations in obstetrics and gynecology and other scientific organizations. Notable among these are the American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society, Society for Gynecologic Investigation and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. He has served as the President of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (1990-91), the Society of Reproductive Endocrinologist (1989-90), and the first President of the Michigan Society of Reproductive Endocrinologists. He has also served as a member of the FDA Fertility and Maternal Health Drug Advisory Committee, as a member and Chairman of the Reproductive Endocrinology Study Section of the National Institutes for Health, and as a member of the Population Research Committee of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. Dr Moghissi has been the recipient of numerous research grants from NIH, WHO, and Pharmaceutical industry. He has served and is currently serving as a member of Editorial Board of many Journals in the field of Reproductive Medicine.
Dr Moghissi has served as a consultant to the World Health Organization and on two task forces of this organization in Geneva, Switzerland. He has received many honors. He is listed in Who’s Who Men of Science, Who’s Who in the Midwest, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the United States, and Who’s Who in the World. He has been recognized as one of the best physicians in his field by Town and Country magazine, Conde Neste, Good Housekeeping magazine, as well as a recent publication entitled “The Best Doctors in America”. He is also the recipient of the National Presidents Award of the Michigan State Medical Society, and Wayne County Medical Society’s Professional Achievement Award. Dr Moghissi established the first Comprehensive Infertility Clinic at Wayne State University/Hutzel Hospital and the first successful In Vitro Fertilization program in Michigan.
He was a member of the House of Delegates of the AMA representing the specialty of Reproductive Medicine from 1992 to 2007. He has served as Chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Harper-Grace Hospital, Hutzel Hospital and as Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Wayne State University and the Detroit Medical Center. Other honors include Pathfinder’s in Medicine award, Weiner recognition award, distinguish service award from Wayne State University and an annual lectureship in his name in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Wayne State University. He has served as visiting Professor in many states as well as Latin American countries, the Middle East and Europe. His recent research interests have included biology of reproductive process, management of Endometriosis, Infertility, Menopause, and Uterine Fibroids. In 1997 Wayne State University honored Dr Moghissi by establishing the Kamran S. Moghissi, MD Chair in Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility.
