General Biographical Description: | Dr Sokol is a fellowship-trained pelvic reconstructive surgeon who is Associate Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery and Fellowship at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC.
After receiving his MD with honors from Wayne State University in Detroit, Dr Sokol completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwestern University in Chicago. He then completed a three-year fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
Dr Sokol is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and is actively involved in various professional and service activities. He is a reviewer for the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology and the International Urogynecology Journal. He also serves by appointment on the Research Committee, Abstract Review Committee, Publications Committee, and Golden Laparoscope Award Committee for the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists. He is recognized as an expert in minimally invasive surgery, urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse, and has been invited to lecture both locally and nationally.
Dr Sokol has published numerous scientific articles on laparoscopy, incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology, and Surgical Endoscopy. He has received a number of honors and awards for research and has produced several award-winning surgical videos. In addition, Dr Sokol is the editor of a gynecologic textbook entitled: The Requisites in Obstetrics and Gynecology: General Gynecology.
Dr Sokol is a member of several professional organizations including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS), American Medical Association, Central Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologist, and American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists. He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology and Urology at Georgetown University School of Medicine. |
